Cameroon Confirms 16 Citizens Killed Fighting for Russia Against Ukraine

Another African nation has confirmed its citizens' participation in the war against Ukraine.
Cameroon's Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the Russian embassy in a diplomatic note that 16 of its citizens fighting on Russia's side have been killed, Reuters reports. This marks the first public acknowledgment of Russian recruitment of Cameroonians.
The ministry did not publicly clarify how these 16 individuals ended up in the war or the circumstances of their deaths. Relatives of the deceased have been urged to contact the Foreign Ministry for more information.
For Russians, Cameroonians - like all other foreign nationals - are cheap, expendable material. Their recruitment costs less than recruiting any Russian citizen. They're easier to deceive, and no one will be held accountable for their deaths.
Earlier, the "I Want to Live" project published data on 93 confirmed killed Cameroonians. These numbers clearly don't represent all citizens of this African country caught up in a foreign war thousands of kilometers from home.
In total, the project has identified nearly 2,500 Africans who signed contracts with Russia's Defense Ministry, with more than 300 confirmed deaths. Previously published lists documented hundreds of mercenaries from various African countries, including Cameroonian citizens.
We call governments of all countries whose citizens Russia recruits for the war, as well as the entire international community, to make maximum efforts to stop this criminal practice. Pressure on Moscow is already yielding results - authorities in India, South Africa, and Kenya have successfully stopped recruitment of their citizens into the occupation army.
