"Bow Their Heads in Shame": Samuel Kojo Brace Blasts Ghanaian Recruiters Earning $1,000 Per Person Shipped to Russia's War

Samuel Kojo Brace, host at Ghana's JoyNews TV channel, has publicly condemned Ghanaian nationals who are operating as recruitment agents for Russia's war - and pointed out that many of them are not in Russia. They are in Ghana.

"Ghanaians acting as agents and luring unsuspecting citizens into the Russia-Ukraine war should bow their heads in shame," Brace said on air. "They are evil."

The figure he cited: $1,000 per individual recruited and shipped. Young Ghanaians are being deceived about where they are going and what awaits them. By the time they understand, they are at a military camp with no way out.

According to him, 55 Ghanaians have been killed in the conflict to date.

The Recruitment Model

According to Brace, the people running this pipeline are not operating from abroad. They are inside Ghana, using personal networks to identify and approach targets. The pitch does not mention the front line. Recruits are told they are going for work. The reality becomes clear only once they are already in Russia and processed into the military system.

Each recruiter earns $1,000 per person delivered. The incentive is not ideological - it is financial. And the victims, Brace said, are young people who have no jobs and who are therefore open to any offer that sounds like an opportunity.

What Surviving Looks Like

Brace referenced a survivor interview aired in an earlier JoyNews segment - a Ghanaian who made it out wounded. The man's account, as relayed by Brace, makes clear why survival is the exception rather than the rule.

What you see in war films, the survivor said, does not come close to what is happening on the ground. The detail that stayed with Brace: drones with motion sensors. If you are caught in the open and try to play dead, you cannot stay still long enough. The drone detects movement. It drops the bomb. You cannot hold your breath indefinitely. You will shift. That shift is enough.

"The probability of surviving in this war," Brace said, "is far less."

The survivor made it home. Brace attributed it to his mother's prayers. The structural reality is that most in his position do not.

They Must Be Named

Brace's point was not only that recruitment is happening but that it is happening from inside the country, by Ghanaians, against Ghanaians. The people doing this are not shadowy foreign operators. They are in the same communities as their victims. They are making money from sending those victims to die.
