Jordan Confirms Two Citizens Killed After Being Recruited into Russia's Army, Calls on Moscow to Stop

Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs has confirmed the deaths of two Jordanian citizens who were recruited to fight alongside Russian forces in Ukraine.
In a statement published on July 3, 2026, the ministry said its Operations and Consular Affairs Directorate is monitoring cases in which Jordanian citizens are lured by outside parties into illegal military recruitment. The two men were killed in combat after being enlisted in Russia's armed forces.
Body Repatriation and Condolences
The ministry said it is coordinating with relevant authorities to recover the bodies of all Jordanian citizens killed after being recruited, with the aim of returning them to Jordan. It extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
Jordan Calls on Russia to Stop
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fuad Majali stated that recruiting Jordanian citizens to serve in foreign armies constitutes a violation of both Jordanian law and international law, and places citizens' lives at serious risk.
Majali urged Jordanians to report any attempts to recruit them into the Russian army and warned against engaging with such offers.
He said Jordan is calling on Russian authorities to stop recruiting Jordanian nationals and to end the service of any Jordanian already enlisted. The ministry said it will pursue all available measures to halt the practice.
