Kenya Warns Citizens Who Fought for Russia Face Prosecution After 10 Deaths Confirmed

Kenya's government has ramped up its crackdown on Russian recruitment of its citizens for the war against Ukraine, threatening criminal prosecution for those who joined Moscow's forces.

Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi announced that all Kenyan nationals participating in armed conflicts abroad without government authorization will face legal consequences. He emphasized that most Kenyans who went to fight for Russia did so knowingly - "they went with full understanding of where they were going," according to Bloomberg.

"Once it is established that they participated in this activity, they will face the full force of the law for committing such crimes," the official stated.

Mudavadi revealed grim statistics: at least 10 Kenyans have been killed and identified, while 38 were wounded in combat and are currently hospitalized. Kenyan authorities also reported shutting down 600 private agencies involved in illegal recruitment.

Previously, Kenya secured an agreement from Russia to stop recruiting its citizens. Shortly after, Russian commanders urgently deployed 518 Kenyan nationals from training camps to the frontlines, aiming to "zero them out" in assault operations.

Russia makes no secret that foreigners are disposable resources. Countries seeking to protect their citizens must make maximum efforts to extract those already contracted with russian armed forces from the Kremlin's clutches, while preventing others from falling for recruiters' promises of lucrative "jobs in russia."
