The reason is straightforward - the disturbing pattern of Russia's military recruitment.

Russia has been systematically targeting East Africa as a recruitment ground for its war against Ukraine. Young men from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and across the Swahili-speaking world have been lured through fake job offers - promises of security guard work, construction jobs, and salaries that sound life-changing in countries where opportunities are scarce. When they arrive in Russia, they find military contracts written in a language they cannot read, weapons they have never handled, and front lines they were never told about.

We have documented this pattern across hundreds of cases. The numbers are not abstract: 485 Africans are confirmed dead while serving in Russia's military. That list includes names from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and other countries where Swahili is spoken and understood. It will grow unless people in these communities can access clear, accurate warnings before recruiters reach them.

Until today, that was harder than it should have been. A warning published only in English does not reach the person in a Kenyan village or a Tanzanian town who speaks Swahili at home. A recruiter's pitch, however, reaches them just fine - through Facebook, through WhatsApp, through a contact who claims they know someone who made good money in Russia.

That asymmetry is what we are trying to close.

Expanding into Swahili is about making sure that the information we publish - the recruiters' profiles, the survivor testimonies, the guides on how to safely surrender, the warnings about what Russia's military contracts actually contain - reaches the people who need it most, in the language they use every day.

Russia is actively targeting these communities. We intend to be there first.
